Nuraghi Epoch |
The properties of San Martino Natural
Mineral Waters were already known in the epoch of the Nuraghi by local populations.
|
| It is narrated that
the ancient Romans appreciated and used the waters of San Martino for thermal treatments
and for this reason built an aqueduct (an archeological site today) about 35km long to
transport this extraordinary water up to their settlement in the coastal centre of Porto
Torres. |
Roman Epoch |
1776: |
The Savoy had the first tests of the
waters carried out in order to ascertain their chemical and organic characteristics,
having considered the therapeutical properties ascribed to them over the years.

The local government of Sassari
obtained the conveyance of the springs from the town of Codrongianos and moreover, about
1870, a proposal was put forward to start up a project to collect and sell these waters
whose characteristics had been praised by the very famous Lamarmora in Viaggio in
Sardegna and by Garelli and Sachero. |
On the initiative of a private the waters of this area began to
be bottled by name, waters of Montes. |

The town of Sassari reacted to the private's
initiative by bottling the by then renowned waters and naming them waters of San Martino.
The water was bottled by approximately 50 women and the packaging was solely made of glass
with corks and wooden cases. |
A public holding company for the
management of the plant was founded: Local Mineral Water Company.
|

The industrial process began and the
very first and most advanced Sardinian non-disposal facility was installed.
|
The plant Brik was created. It
will be remordernised in the 90s following the decision of the local government to create
a joint-stock company giving large scope to expert agents of the field and holding a share
of 10%, in order to encourage the growth of the product by then known on the entire island
and not only. |

The plant PET was installed in order
to comply with the needs of the modern market. Since then the company has had the most
modern facilities, which enables it to meet the demands of the market, although features
of the long history of San Martino remain intact in the historical part of the plant.
